Tote Bags with Logo: 100, 140 or 210 g/m² – How to Choose

A practical guide to choosing tote bags with a logo by cotton weight: 100, 140, 180 and 210–220 g/m², with price guidelines and models from our catalogue.

Cotton tote bags with a logo in three weights

Tote bags with a logo are most commonly ordered in Latvia in three weights: 100 g/m² light bags for event attendees and promotional campaigns (carrying roughly 3–4 kg), 140 g/m² as a universal everyday option, and 210–220 g/m² heavy-duty bags that hold 8–10 kg and last for years. The higher the weight, the denser the print and the better the wash resistance – but also the higher the price, with the difference between a 100 g/m² and a 220 g/m² bag being roughly double. The standard turnaround with printing is 5–10 business days after artwork approval, with urgent orders available by agreement.

What g/m² means and why it's the main criterion

Grams per square metre indicate the density of the fabric, not the size of the bag. 100 g/m² cotton is thin, slightly see-through against light, with a visible weave; 140 g/m² is already a dense, matte fabric; from 180 g/m² upwards, the bag holds its own shape and the handles don't twist. In practice, weight determines three things: how much weight the bag can carry, how smooth the print surface will be, and how long the bag will stay in use.

If the goal is maximum reach at a low cost (conferences, trade fairs, open days), 100–140 g/m² is the right choice. If the bag is a gift or a retail product, 210–220 g/m² pays off – it gets reused, and the logo stays visible for longer.

Which printing method to choose

Screen printing

The most cost-effective method from 50–100 pieces with a 1–3 colour logo. The ink soaks into the fabric and withstands washing at 40°C. Requires a vector file (.ai, .eps, .pdf) in CMYK or with specified Pantone colours.

DTF transfer

Suitable for full-colour images, photographs and gradients, as well as small runs – we can even produce a single piece. On 100 g/m² fabric, the transfer is noticeable to the touch, so for large-area prints it's better to use at least 140 g/m².

Embroidery

Available for thicker models (Peru 180 g/m², Pheebs 210 g/m², Odessa 220 g/m², Trace 500 g/m²). Looks solid, but isn't suitable for fine text under 4 mm letter height.

Colour, volume and practical nuances

Natural (undyed) cotton is the cheapest and always available in all weights; with coloured fabrics, bear in mind that a light print on a dark fabric requires an extra base layer in screen printing. A 7 l volume fits a typical A4 bag for documents, 13 l already fits a conference folder with a mug and a bottle, while 28–40 l is a shopping bag for a week's worth of groceries.

If the bag is given together with other materials, check whether an A4 folder fits without folding – for some 7 l models, the width is 38 cm, but the height is only 40 cm including handles. When ordering more than 200 pieces, we recommend ordering a printed sample before the full run.

Turnaround times and files

The standard production time is 5–10 business days after artwork approval, depending on the bag model's availability and the printing method: DTF for small quantities typically takes 5–7 business days, screen printing 5–8, embroidery 7–10. Please send files in vector format (.ai, .eps, .pdf) with fonts embedded; if you only have a JPG or PNG, our designer can redraw the logo – usually for EUR 15–30.

Frequently asked questions

Which weight is the most cost-effective for an event with 500 attendees?

The 140 g/m² Madras model – priced close to the 100 g/m² bag, but the fabric doesn't look see-through and it holds 5–6 kg. For 500 pieces, guideline pricing starts from EUR 1.60 per bag with single-colour screen printing.

Can I order just one bag with printing?

Yes. With DTF transfer, we can also produce a single piece; in this case, the unit price is higher (guideline EUR 8–12), since the preparation work remains the same.

Will the print withstand washing?

Screen printing and DTF withstand washing at 30–40°C, inside out, without a tumble dryer and without ironing directly over the print. Embroidery practically doesn't wear out.

What are the advantages of recycled cotton bags?

The Madras 140 g/m² GRS, Pheebs 210 g/m² and Odessa 220 g/m² GRS models are made from certified recycled fibres – this allows you to specify compliance with sustainability criteria in procurement documents. The price is roughly 5–10% higher than an equivalent made from new cotton.

How long should I allow for an urgent order?

The standard turnaround is 5–10 business days after artwork approval. If the model is in stock and the printing method is DTF, the turnaround is usually closer to 5 business days; faster solutions need to be arranged separately.

Write to info@attaprint.lv, call +371 25776699 or message us on WhatsApp – project manager Madara will help you choose the right weight and printing method, and you'll receive a quote within one business day.
