T-shirt Sizes and Colours: How to Choose for a Team Order

A practical guide to choosing T-shirt sizes and colours for a team order: size chart, size-distribution proportions and how colour affects printing.

T-shirt sizes and colours: how to choose for a team

Unisex and men's T-shirt sizes usually range from XS to 3XL, women's cut is more often XS–2XL, and children's models from 4–12 years (104–152 cm). The colour range in our catalogue is wide – for example, Beagle 155 g/m² comes in 36 colours, Stafford 190 g/m² in 41 colours – but actual stock availability of specific colour and size combinations needs to be checked on the day of ordering. Below you'll find an indicative size chart, size-distribution proportions for a team, and how colour affects the printing method and price.

Indicative T-shirt size chart

Sizes are measured with the T-shirt laid flat: chest width from seam to seam (multiplied by 2 = chest circumference) and length from the highest point of the neck to the hem. These figures are indicative – the chart varies slightly for each model, so we send the exact size chart for the specific model before you order.

L5574102–108 cm
XL5976108–114 cm
2XL6378114–122 cm
3XL6780122–130 cm

Women's cut (for example, Capri 170 g/m²) is narrower at the hips and shorter than the unisex model – if part of your team prefers a more fitted shape, it's better to order two cuts in the same colour rather than fitting everyone into one unisex option.

How to avoid measurement mistakes

The safest way: take a T-shirt the person already wears and that fits well, measure it flat and compare it with the chart. Another option is to order 3–4 size samples without printing (we also work from 1 piece), measure the team, and only then send the full run into production.

Size distribution for a team

If there's no time to collect each employee's size, use an average distribution. In orders from Latvian companies, a mixed team is typically split roughly as follows:

SizeShare of run50 pcs100 pcs
S10%510
M22%1122
L28%1428
XL22%1122
2XL12%612
3XL6%36

For sports clubs and event teams, the distribution shifts towards M–L, while for manufacturing and construction teams it shifts towards XL–2XL. For events where T-shirts are handed out on site, we recommend ordering a 5–10% reserve in L and XL sizes – these run out first.

Colour choice and how it affects printing

The catalogue offers a wide range of colours, but in practice the choice is driven by the printing method and the logo's colours:

Beagle 155 g/m² vīriešu T-krekls ar īsām piedurknēm
Beagle 155 g/m² vīriešu T-krekls ar īsām piedurknēm
  • White T-shirt – the cheapest and simplest to print. Suitable for all methods, including sublimation (only on white polyester, for example Bahrain 135 g/m²).
  • Dark colours (black, navy, burgundy) – require a white base layer under the colours in both screen printing and DTF transfer. This affects the preparation work, not the T-shirt price.
  • Heather melange and mottled fabrics – fine lines and thin lettering look less crisp on these; we recommend a logo height of at least 30 mm.
  • Bright shades (yellow, orange, fluorescent) – work well for events, but a dark single-colour logo reads better on them than a multicoloured image.

Standard print areas: left chest 110×90 mm, front or back up to 280×210 mm, sleeve 80×60 mm, embroidery up to 90×90 mm. For more on the technologies, see our garment printing section.

One colour or several

In screen printing, each extra colour means an extra screen, so for larger runs (from 50–100 pcs) a 1–2 colour logo is more cost-effective. For DTF transfer, the number of colours doesn't affect the price – it's more cost-effective for full-colour images and small quantities from 1–20 pieces.

All models and size options are available in the T-shirts and polo shirts categories.

Frequently asked questions

Can one order include different sizes and colours?

Yes. Sizes don't affect the price per piece. The number of colours only matters for screen printing – if the T-shirts come in different colours but the logo is the same, DTF transfer is usually more cost-effective.

Are unisex and men's sizes the same?

In practice, men's and unisex cuts are close, but in the same size, women's models have a chest width 3–5 cm smaller and a shorter length. If your team needs both options, it's better to order two cuts in the same colour.

How long does it take to get printed T-shirts?

Usually 6–10 business days: production 4–7 business days depending on quantity, plus delivery 2–3 days. We can arrange urgent orders separately.

What files are needed for the logo?

Vector graphics (.ai, .eps, .pdf, .svg) in CMYK mode; for raster images, at least 300 dpi at actual size. We send the artwork for approval by email, and on request we prepare a 3D preview with your logo.

Can I order a single T-shirt as a sample?

Yes, we also work with 1 piece. A sample can be ordered without printing to check the size, or with printing to see how the logo looks on the chosen colour.

Are all the colours shown in the catalogue available in all sizes?

Not always. Rarer colours may be out of stock in some sizes, so when preparing the quote we check the availability of the specific colour and size and offer the closest alternative.
