Printing methods: what to choose for which material

Laser engraving

For steel thermal bottles and pens, this is the most durable method — the image doesn't wear off, but there's only one colour: the material's natural tone (usually light grey on steel, matte on a coloured body). Logos with gradients or fine details under 1 mm disappear in engraving, so a simplified vector version is needed.

UV and pad printing

Mepal plastic containers and some pens are suited to UV printing, which can reproduce the logo in colour according to CMYK or Pantone. For container lids, this is a good solution when the corporate colour matters to the brand.

Deboss and foil stamping

For Moleskine covers, blind deboss (relief without colour) or foil stamping is used — gold, silver, white, black. Foil works better than deboss for fine text, as the contrast is higher.

Files and lead times

Printing requires vector graphics: .ai, .eps or .pdf with fonts converted to outlines, colours in CMYK or Pantone. If you only have a .png or a logo from a website, we'll redraw it in vector — usually within 1 business day.

The standard lead time for branded products with printing is 5–10 business days from artwork approval: 1–3 days for the item to reach printing, 2–4 days for printing and quality control. In December and May, plan for an extra week as a buffer — these are the busiest months. If the deadline is shorter, let us know right away: for some models we can offer an in-stock alternative.

Yes, but the unit price will be higher, as the setup cost for printing is spread over a smaller quantity. For pens and thermal bottles, the practical minimum with engraving is 10 pieces; for containers with UV printing, 25. Individual pieces without printing are available with no limit.

How long do I need to wait for branded gifts in December?

In December, plan for the upper end of the lead time — 10 business days — plus an extra week's buffer, as both production schedules and courier deliveries are busy. If you need it faster, choose a model that's already in stock, with single-colour printing.

Does printing on a Stanley bottle void the warranty?

Laser engraving is done on the outer body and doesn't affect the vacuum layer, so the product's functionality and manufacturer's warranty remain valid. Engraving is not done on parts of the lid that come into contact with the seals.

What logo file should I send?

Ideally .ai, .eps or .pdf with vector curves and specified Pantone colours. If the logo is only available in raster format, send the highest-quality version — redrawing it in vector usually takes one business day.
