How a rollerball differs from a ballpoint pen

A rollerball pen uses liquid or gel ink, which flows more smoothly than the oil-based ink of a ballpoint pen. The writing is softer, and the line is richer and darker — that's why rollerballs are chosen for signatures and documents. The downside: the ink runs out faster, and on thin paper it may bleed through slightly.

A ballpoint pen is more durable for everyday work and lasts longer on a single refill. That's exactly why the more expensive gift options often come as a set — one rollerball and one ballpoint pen in a single box. That way, the recipient can choose which one to use day to day.

What kind of personalisation suits a presentable pen

Laser engraving

For metal pens, laser engraving is the standard solution: the laser removes the surface layer and exposes the base metal, so the engraving never wears off or rubs away. On a black or dark body it creates a light, silvery pattern; on chrome, a matte one. Engraving is single-colour, so the logo must be submitted as a vector file (.ai, .eps, .pdf, .svg) without halftones or gradients.

The typical engraving area on a pen body is approximately 40×6 mm, and on the clip around 25×5 mm. For management gifts, we often engrave a first and last name or a date rather than a large logo — it looks more personal that way.

Pad printing and digital printing

Pad printing allows a colour logo to be applied, but on polished metal it can wear off over time. Colour images are usually used on cheaper plastic models, such as the Mauna gel rollerball. For more expensive metal pens we recommend engraving, while for the gift box or the set's case, hot foil stamping or embossing works well.

Files, artwork and lead times

Please send your logo or monogram as a vector file (.ai, .eps, .pdf, .svg). For engraving, text must be converted to outlines, with a minimum letter height of around 2 mm — finer details tend to blur together on metal. Before production, we send an artwork proof with the exact engraving placement and size, which must be approved by email.

Promotional products with printing are usually ready within 6–10 business days: production takes 4–7 business days depending on quantity, plus 2–3 days for delivery. Urgent orders can be arranged by agreement — just mention your deadline in the request. Can I order a single engraved pen?

Yes. We also work with 1 piece — prices in the table are listed exactly at 1 pc. A single item includes a setup fee for the engraving file, which we specify in the quote.

Can each recipient have a different name engraved?

Yes, laser engraving allows the text to be changed for each piece. Variable data usually comes with a small additional fee per unit; please send the list in Excel or a text file with the exact spelling, including diacritics.

How long does the engraving last?

Laser engraving is embedded in the metal, so it won't wear off throughout the pen's lifetime. Pad printing on metal is coloured but more sensitive to wear, so for expensive pens we recommend it less often.

Do the pens come in a gift box?

Parker, Waterman and Luxe sets come in the manufacturer's box or case — for example, the Carbon set with a case and the Parker IM achromatic set in a gift box. For some models, a box can be added for an additional fee.

Can the box or case also be engraved?

For some models, yes — hot foil stamping or embossing works well on a faux-leather case. We confirm this once the specific model has been chosen, since not all box surfaces are suitable.
