What are stickers with variable data
Variable data printing means that each sticker on the sheet is different: the number, QR code, barcode, serial marking or text changes. The design stays the same — only the fields you specify change.
The most common variants we produce:
- Sequential numbering — 0001–0500, with or without a prefix (e.g. INV-0001).
- QR codes with a single link — the same code for all stickers, leading to a website, menu or form.
- Unique QR codes — each sticker has its own link or ID from your list.
- Barcodes — EAN-13, Code 128, combined with a human-readable number below the code.
- Number + QR code on one sticker — most commonly used for inventory and fixed-asset tracking.
Prices and quantities
We calculate stickers based on printed area, so a small size means a low price per piece. The table below shows approximate pieces per square metre and price per sticker at a base rate of EUR 24/m² (excl. VAT, rectangular cut):
| Sticker size | Approx. pcs/m² | Price per pc (from EUR 24/m²) | Price per pc (from EUR 19/m²) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30 × 30 mm | ~850 | ~EUR 0.03 | ~EUR 0.02 |
| 50 × 50 mm | ~350 | ~EUR 0.07 | ~EUR 0.05 |
| 70 × 40 mm | ~310 | ~EUR 0.08 | ~EUR 0.06 |
| 100 × 50 mm | ~180 | ~EUR 0.13 | ~EUR 0.11 |
| 100 × 100 mm | ~90 | ~EUR 0.27 | ~EUR 0.21 |
| A6 (105 × 148 mm) | ~60 | ~EUR 0.40 | ~EUR 0.32 |
If you need a shape other than a rectangle (circle, oval, logo outline), contour cutting is added at approximately EUR 8.00/m² extra. The exact price depends on the total area, material, and whether lamination is required. The full sticker price list and order form are available in the stickers section.
Minimum order quantity
We also handle single sheets or small batches — for example, 50 inventory stickers with unique QR codes. The minimum billable area is 0.25 m², so the smallest orders start at approximately EUR 6 excl. VAT.
Technical requirements for QR codes
A QR code that won't scan is the most common issue with this type of job. To avoid it, we follow these guidelines:
- Minimum size — 20 × 20 mm for practical scanning with a phone from 10–20 cm away. We only go below 15 × 15 mm if the link is short.
- Module size — at least 0.5 mm; long links with many characters require a larger code.
- Quiet zone — a clear margin of at least 4 modules wide around the code. Without it, scanners may fail to detect the code.
- Contrast — dark code on a light background. Inverted (light on dark) and pastel codes perform unreliably.
- Error correction — we use level Q or H for stickers that may get scratched or partially covered.
- Surface — matte vinyl scans more reliably than gloss, as it doesn't create glare under artificial lighting.
Before running the full batch, we always prepare and scan a test sample with two different phones.
How to submit files
We need the design in vector format (.ai, .eps, .pdf), CMYK, with a 2–3 mm bleed. Send variable data separately:
- For numbering — specify the starting number, ending number, digit count (0001 or 1) and prefix.
- For QR codes — a CSV or Excel file where the first column is the link or ID, and the second (if needed) is the visible number.
- For placement — indicate where on the sticker the code and number should go, or attach an artwork template with a blank area marked.
If you don't have a design, we can prepare one — for a simple sticker with a logo, number and QR code, this usually takes one business day. Requirements and prices for other printing products are available in the printing services section.
Where our customers use these stickers
- Companies and municipalities — inventory and fixed-asset tracking with a unique number and QR code linking to a tracking system.
- Cafés and restaurants — a QR code on a table sticker or window linking to a menu, feedback form or loyalty programme.
- Manufacturers — batch numbers, serial numbers, warranty seals with sequential numbering.
- Event organisers — numbered stickers for tickets, attendee bags, equipment labelling.
- Sports clubs and schools — equipment and locker labelling, QR codes linking to rules or registration forms.
Turnaround times
We produce standard batches of stickers with numbering or QR codes in 2–5 business days from artwork approval. For large orders (over 20 m²), with contour cutting or lamination, plan for the upper end of this range — up to 5 business days. Rush jobs can be completed faster — let us know your deadline and we'll confirm whether it's feasible.
Frequently asked questions
How much do 500 stickers at 50 × 50 mm with unique QR codes cost?
500 pieces at this size take up approximately 1.5 m², so the price is approximately EUR 36 excl. VAT at a rate of EUR 24/m². There's no extra charge for a rectangular cut; preparing unique codes from your CSV file is included.
Can you generate QR codes if I only have a list of links?
Yes. Send the links in an Excel or CSV file, and we'll generate codes with the appropriate error correction level and size. You'll receive a PDF proof for review before printing.
Can the numbering be irregular rather than sequential?
Yes. If the numbers don't follow a sequence or contain letter combinations, submit them as a list in a file — printing will follow exactly the order they appear in the file.
Which vinyl is better suited for QR codes?
Matte. It doesn't create glare, so the code scans more reliably even under lamps or sunlight. Gloss is chosen when colour saturation is more important, for example for product packaging stickers.
Do the stickers withstand outdoor conditions?
Standard laminated vinyl lasts approximately 2–3 years outdoors. If the sticker is intended for equipment, containers or vehicles, mention this in your request — we'll recommend a suitable material.
