Stickers on Rolls with Logo: Winding Direction and Core Size
How to order stickers on rolls correctly: winding direction 1–8, core diameter 25/40/76 mm, roll outer diameter, gaps and prices from EUR 17.60/m².

When ordering stickers on rolls, besides size and material you need to specify three technical parameters: winding direction (standard designations 1–8), core inner diameter (most often 25 mm, 40 mm or 76 mm), and the maximum outer diameter of the roll that your applicator or label gun can take. At our production facility on Kandavas iela 29A, we cut and rewind rolls according to these parameters; sticker prices start from EUR 17.60/m² (excl. VAT), with laminated or contour-cut stickers from EUR 24.00/m², and the usual turnaround is 1–3 business days.
Why winding direction matters
Hand applicators, label guns and semi-automatic applicators peel a sticker off the backing in one specific position. If the roll is wound in the opposite direction, the label comes out rotated 180°, or the applicator places it onto the product at the wrong angle — meaning the entire batch of rolls has to be rewound.
The standard designation system is simple: directions 1–4 mean the stickers are on the outside of the roll (outside wound), directions 5–8 — on the inside (inside wound). The number indicates which side of the label comes out first as the roll unwinds.
| Direction | Winding | What comes out first |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | outside | top of the design |
| 2 | outside | bottom of the design |
| 3 | outside | right side |
| 4 | outside | left side |
| 5–8 | inside | same logic, label facing inward |
If you don't know the designation, send us a photo of your current roll and the equipment model — we'll work it out for you. The simplest approach: just tell us whether the sticker should come out "face first" and whether the labels are on the inside or outside of the roll.
Core size and roll diameter
The core's inner diameter needs to match the equipment's spindle. In practice, three sizes are most common in Latvia.
| Core (inner Ø) | Typical use | Roll outer Ø |
|---|---|---|
| 25 mm (1") | hand label guns, small rolls | up to ~100 mm |
| 40 mm (1.5") | desktop dispensers, small applicators | up to ~200 mm |
| 76 mm (3") | semi-automatic and automatic applicators, label printers | 200–300 mm |
The outer diameter determines how many labels fit on one roll. If your applicator has a limit, say 200 mm, but you need 5,000 stickers, we split them across several rolls — it's better to know this before production rather than after.
How to calculate the number of labels per roll
Approximate formula: number of labels ≈ ((roll ز − core ز) × 0.785) / (material thickness × (label length + gap)). In practice, it's simpler to tell us the desired quantity per roll (e.g. 500 or 1,000 pcs), and we'll check whether it fits within your equipment's diameter limit.
Gaps, backing and splices
- Gap between labels — standard 3 mm. Automatic applicators with a sensor sometimes need 2–5 mm; let us know if your equipment has specific requirements.
- Edges — a 2–3 mm backing margin on each side so the label doesn't get scuffed and the tape runs smoothly through the guides.
- Multiple columns — if the label is narrow, 2–3 rows can fit within one roll width, but applicators usually need just a single column.
- Backing type — glossy silicone-coated backing peels off more easily and runs more reliably in automatic equipment than matte backing.
- Splices — if there's a join within the roll, we mark it with a coloured flag so the operator is aware of it.
Materials and prices
We print stickers on rolls on paper, PP film, vinyl, transparent and metallised films. The price is calculated per square metre of printed material — meaning small labels in large runs cost very little per piece.
| Sticker type | Price, EUR/m² (excl. VAT) | Setup |
|---|---|---|
| Standard print (no cutting) | 17.60 | 0.00 |
| Print + contour cutting + carrier film | 24.00 | 0.00 |
| Laminated (print + lamination) | 24.00 | 0.00 |
| Easy removable | 28.80 | 0.00 |
| Transparent | 48.00 | 0.00 |
| Mirror film | 48.00 | 0.00 |
| Brushed silver | 64.00 | 0.00 |
Prices are indicative and exclude VAT; the exact amount depends on size, material, run size and how rolls are split. For example, a 60 × 40 mm label takes up 0.0024 m², so 2,000 laminated stickers come to around 4.8 m² of material, or roughly EUR 115, plus rewinding into rolls. For product, ingredient, instruction and translation labels, the laminated option is safer — more resistant to moisture and friction. What to send with your order
- Label size in mm (width × height) and shape — rectangle, rounded corners, circle, free-form contour.
- Material: paper, PP film, vinyl, transparent, metallised; with or without lamination.
- Winding direction (1–8) or a photo of your current roll.
- Core inner diameter: 25, 40 or 76 mm.
- Maximum roll outer diameter or desired number of labels per roll.
- Total quantity and number of different designs.
- Artwork: vector file (.ai, .eps, .pdf, .svg), CMYK, raster images at 300 dpi, text converted to outlines.
We send the artwork for approval by email; once approved, production usually takes 1–3 business days. Delivery via our courier partner in Riga costs EUR 16.00 per trip, or you can collect on-site at Kandavas iela 29A. You can view examples of our work in the our work section.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find out my equipment's winding direction if there's no documentation?
Take the current roll, position it as it would be loaded into the equipment, and photograph it from the side and from above, so it's clear whether the labels face outward or inward and which side comes out first. Based on the photo, we'll determine the direction and lock it into your order so future rolls are identical.
Can you print stickers on rolls with variable data — numbers or barcodes?
Yes, we can include sequential numbering and barcodes if you send the data in a table (CSV or Excel) along with a sample showing where the fields should go. Barcodes need at least 8 mm height and white margins so scanners can read them reliably.
What's the minimum order quantity for rolls?
Technically we can produce even a small batch, but rewinding and setup take the same time whether it's 200 or 2,000 labels, so the per-piece price is higher for small runs. The most cost-effective quantity starts at roughly 500–1,000 labels per design.
Is lamination mandatory for food or cosmetics labels?
It's not mandatory, but recommended. Lamination (EUR 24.00/m²) protects the print from moisture, oil and friction, which matters for products kept in the fridge or bathroom. For dry packaged goods, standard printing from EUR 17.60/m² is often sufficient.
How long does a repeat order take?
If the design and roll parameters haven't changed, we produce repeat runs in 1–3 business days, since all files and settings are already saved. Urgent jobs can be arranged by agreement.
Can you deliver stickers both on rolls and in sheets?
Yes. We can split the same design: part on rolls for your applicator, part on A4 sheets for manual application or samples. Just let us know the split you need, and we'll list it as separate line items on the quote.
Send us your label size, winding direction and core diameter at info@attaprint.lv, call +371 25776699, or message us on WhatsApp at the same number. We'll prepare a quote with pricing, roll breakdown and turnaround within one business day — see the Contacts section.
