Preparing a roll-up file without a designer: banner stand, poster, stickers

A practical guide to preparing print files yourself for a standard 85×200 cm roll-up banner stand, a beach flag, A1/A2 posters and stickers — sizes, safe zone, CMYK and bleed.

Roll-up 85×200 cm: dimensions and safe zone

A standard roll-up cassette is 85 cm wide, and the fabric is drawn into it with some extra allowance. That's why the file is made taller than the visible area.

  • File size: 850 × 2200 mm (no bleed needed — the fabric is cut to the format, so no bleed is required at the edges, but the background must extend right to the edge of the file).
  • Bottom 200 mm: this part rolls into the cassette. Place only a continuation of the background here, never logos, text or contact details.
  • Top 50 mm: sits under the top profile fitting — keep this clear too.
  • Safe zone on the sides: 30–40 mm from each edge.
  • Main message: 1200–1900 mm from the bottom, i.e. at eye level. Headline at least 100 pt, body text no smaller than 24 pt.
  • Material: blockout — opaque, so the reverse side doesn't show through.

Mini roll-up (desktop version) and wider models require different sizes — we send these along with your quote. All variants can be found in the banners and roll-up stands section.

Beach flag: shape and mirrored image

A beach flag isn't rectangular — its shape (teardrop, feather, rectangle) depends on the pole, so the artwork must always be placed on the template we provide. Leave a 20–30 mm margin around the perimeter for the hem, and 60–80 mm on the pole side for the pocket.

A flag is single-sided by default: the print goes through the fabric, and from the other side the image naturally appears mirrored. If the text needs to read correctly on both sides, you'll need a double-sided flag with a blocking inner layer and two files — the second one with a mirrored layout. Keep text at least 50 mm from the flag's edge: in the wind the edges ripple, and text near the seam gets visually cut off.

A1/A2 posters and stickers

Posters and other sheet-cut products need a 3 mm bleed on each side, since the sheet gets trimmed.

For stickers, the cutting line is created as a separate vector path with the colour CutContour (Spot, 100% magenta) on a separate layer. If there's no cut path, we'll create it for you — no extra charge. Read more about materials in the stickers section, and about posters in posters.

Technical requirements for all files

  • Format: PDF (PDF/X-4 or simply "Press Quality"). We also accept .ai, .eps, .svg.
  • Colours: CMYK. RGB files turn duller once converted, especially bright greens and blues.
  • Black background and large areas: not 100% K, but C40 M30 Y30 K100 — otherwise it comes out grey.
  • Logo and text: in vector format or with embedded fonts; alternatively, fonts converted to outlines.
  • Images: 300 dpi raster for small formats, 100–150 dpi for large-format work at actual size. An image taken from a website at 72 dpi won't work when scaled up to 2 m in height.
  • File name: company_rollup_85x200.pdf — this avoids confusion when there are several items.

What we check before printing

We check every file we receive against a single checklist and send it back for approval by email:

  1. size and scale (checking it isn't 1:10);
  2. colour space and total ink coverage;
  3. resolution at actual size;
  4. bleed and safe zone — whether text runs under the cassette or the cutting line;
  5. font embedding and vector integrity;
  6. transparencies and effects that might print differently;
  7. cutting path for stickers.

We don't check spelling or phone numbers — the client is responsible for content, so please read the artwork carefully before approving it.

Examples from our catalogue

Indicative prices for other stand components: A1 poster, 200 g — EUR 9.00/pc, EUR 7.00 from 10 pcs, EUR 5.50 from 50 pcs; A2 poster — EUR 6.00/pc, EUR 3.20 from 50 pcs; PVC banner with print — EUR 14.40/m²; stickers with print and die-cutting — EUR 24.00/m². All prices exclude VAT; the exact amount depends on quantity and material.

If you don't have a designer

If all you have is a logo and some text, we'll prepare the artwork for you. We'll need a vector logo, text in Word or by email, photos at original size, and your preferred colour palette. A simple roll-up or poster layout from us typically costs around EUR 25–60 excl. VAT, depending on complexity and number of revisions — we state the exact amount in the quote for each item. For an exhibition set (stand + posters + stickers + promotional products with your logo), it's best to allow 7–10 business days, as printing on products takes longer than our own in-house printing.

FAQ

What's the correct roll-up file size for an 85×200 cm stand?

850 × 2200 mm, of which the bottom 200 mm stays hidden behind the cassette. No bleed is needed, but the background must extend right to the edge of the file. Place important content at least 30 mm from the sides.

Does a beach flag need a mirrored image for the other side?

Not for a single-sided flag — the image on the other side naturally appears mirrored. A double-sided flag needs two files, with the second one mirrored so the text reads correctly on both sides.

What resolution is needed for large-format printing?

Roll-ups and banners only need 100–150 dpi at actual size, since they're viewed from 1–3 metres away. A1/A2 posters need 200–300 dpi. Logos and text should always be in vector format.

Can I send a file in Word or Canva format?

A Canva PDF will work if it's exported as "PDF Print" and the size is correct, though the colours will be in RGB and we'll convert them to CMYK. Word files are only used as a text source, not as print-ready artwork.

How long does it take to get a finished stand?

Our own printing — posters, stickers, banners — takes 1–3 business days after artwork approval. A roll-up stand usually takes 2–4 business days. Rush jobs are available by arrangement.

How much does artwork preparation cost if I only send a logo?

Roughly EUR 25–60 excl. VAT per layout, depending on content volume and number of revisions. If an order includes several items with the same design, the artwork fee is applied only once.
